About Us
The company was formed in 1988 after a merger of two Yeovil
practices. With offices in Yeovil and Minehead, Slade Parry
Limited offers professional quantity surveying and building
surveying services to the public and private sectors across
the South West of England.
Our aim is to provide
a value for money, high quality service and we are always
keen to develop long term relationships with our clients.
The work we undertake covers all aspects of surveying including
Quantity Surveying, Project Management and Building Surveying.
We pride ourselves in keeping up to date with the latest working
practices and industry standards. We were one of the first
firms in the area to introduce a computerised Bills of Quantities
system into their offices. This was at a time when computers
were the exception rather than the rule. Today we make full
use of modern technology including the latest CAD and bill
production software.
Our client base includes
Private and Local Authority Housing, Housing Association Projects,
Retail Premises, Leisure Facilities, Industrial Buildings,
Churches, Hotels, Civil Engineering of various types, Food
Production Facilities, Elderly Persons Developments, School
Facilities, Sports Halls and Conservation Work to Historic
Buildings to name but a few of the types of commissions undertaken.
The practice has three
Directors and a number of senior and junior surveyors, an
office manager and secretarial support.

The practice also retains
the services of various consultants who assist during busy
periods, enabling us to be flexible and responsive to our
clients' demands. These consultants include retired partners
Trevor F Slade FRICS MCIOB ACI Arb and John W Parry FRICS,
who between them have a wealth of knowledge and experience
acquired following a lifetime in the industry. Outside consultants
are also occasionally used to assist in areas of specialist
knowledge, for example, structural engineering and specialist
architectural expertise.
Pre-contract work is normally
undertaken from either offices. Post-contract services are
undertaken from the most appropriate office in relation to
the proximity of the site.
Management systems
The practice has a basic
management structure which is then adapted to suit the individual
client or project, no two projects or design teams being the
same.
Overall management of
the practice is shared between the three directors with each
director having individual responsibility for a number of
key issues, for example IT, Training, CPD, staff, insurance,
purchasing, etc. The day to day clerical administration is
undertaken by the office manager, Mrs M Childs.
It is our policy to have
a director or senior surveyor in overall charge of every project.
The workload is then delegated as appropriate to the most
suitable staff, having regard to their current workload and
experience.
When a job comes into
the office it is initially appraised by the directors, one
of whom will take overall responsibility, before deciding
on the most appropriate person or persons to undertake the
work. The directors are all hands-on and take an active role
in the day to day surveying tasks.
Awareness of current working practices, legislation and
case law
The Practice subscribes
to the following:-
- The RICS Building
Cost Information Service
- The RICS "isurv"
online bulletin
- The NBS Specifier
Service
- Croners Management
of Construction Safety
The directors and qualified
surveyors are also required by their professional bodies to
undertake a level of Continuing Professional Development and
therefore regularly attend seminars, lectures and workshops
on a variety of topics.
Environmental
and H & S Awareness
Apart from the Croners
subscription mentioned above, the directors and all surveyors
attend seminars or RICS CPD events to further their knowledge
in such issues.
Quality Assurance or
equivalent
The practice has an in-house
quality assurance procedure which was introduced a few years
ago, with the aim of seeking accreditation if this became
a requirement of any of our major clients. Since that time
quality assurance seems to have become less of an issue and
we have never felt the need to become fully accredited, however
it is fair to say that the introduction of the various systems
has benefited the practice and undoubtedly made us more efficient.
Professional Indemnity
Insurance
The practice is insured
to a limit of £2m for any one claim with The Professional
Indemnity Group. A copy of the current Schedule of Insurance
is available on request.
Relevant Experience
Details of some of the
projects we have been involved with in recent years can be
seen in the Projects pages of the
website.
We have adapted over the
years, to tailor our service from the traditional procurement
methods involving Bills of Quantities or Specifications of
Work which were the norm a few years ago, through to Design
and Build contracts and more recently Partnering arrangements.
We endeavour to provide
a consistently high quality service, whilst ensuring our fees
offer good value for money. Evidence of repeat business with
our various clients indicates that we successfully achieve
this.
