DESCRIPTION OF THE PROJECT:

The project involved the construction of a new single storey Learning Resources Centre within a courtyard formed by the Main School Building. The building has an internal floor area of 195m5 and accommodates both Junior and Senior Libraries plus a separate Internet Resource Area. The contract included alterations and refurbishment works to the surrounding buildings, along with the replacement of windows and doors to the existing Refectory and Games Room. An enabling contract was required prior to commencement of the main project, to divert existing services and drains around the site and provide junctions for connecting into.

The building has piled foundations and ground beams supporting a beam and block floor structure. The superstructure is a combination of load-bearing masonry with facing brickwork externally to match the existing buildings, with a steel frame supporting the central circular area which houses the Internet Resource Area. The roof coverings are a combination of plain tiles to the circular roof, with a faceted rooflight at the apex, and a flat roof from the junctions to the existing buildings.

The building incorporated all electrical and mechanical installations including heating, air-conditioning, fire alarm installation and computer systems including data cabling and access points within the structure.

CONSULTANT SERVICES PROVIDED:

The Pre-Contract Services carried out on this project involved the initial budgeting and reporting on the tenders received.

The Post-Contract Services carried out on this project involved the continual cost monitoring and cost reporting on the project, the agreeing and certifying of monthly valuations, dealing with all Contractual matters and negotiations in respect of the final account.
