DESCRIPTION OF THE PROJECT:
The project involves the
construction of a new Swimming Pool building attached to an
existing Sports Hall, with some internal alterations to the
original building including the installation of a vertical
platform lift. The new building has a total internal floor
area of 1,075m5 and accommodates a 25m x 6 lane pool with
adjacent tiered spectator seating, 2 nr. 20 pupil changing
rooms, entrance foyer, office, staff room, stores, plant room
and toilet facilities.
The substructures comprise
a reinforced concrete ground floor slab and swimming pool
shell with mass concrete column bases, trench fill foundations
to the walls and reinforced concrete retaining walls where
necessary.
The superstructure will
comprise a structural steel portal frame (pre-finished where
exposed) with masonry cavity walls and rendered feature arches
over the windows at eaves level. Windows, screens and external
doors are all purpose made powder coated aluminium. Internal
walls are constructed of blockwork with plywood faced internal
doors and softwood screens. The building will incorporate
specialist swimming pool equipment including water treatment
plant and air handling equipment, to be installed by a specialist
swimming pool contractor.
The building is to be
completed and fitted out ready for use by the school including
all finishes and decorations, specialist ceramic tiling to
the pool floor and walls and the surrounding areas plus within
the changing rooms. The building will incorporate electrical
and mechanical installations including heating to the ancillary
areas and provision of hot water supplies throughout the building.
All service supplies, fire alarm, telephone and computer installations
will be connected back to the main school systems.
Ancillary works include
an enlarged car park, landscaping, paving/paths around the
building, ramps and associated retaining walls. Drainage to
the building and pool include a water attenuation facility
and petrol interceptor.
CONSULTANT SERVICES PROVIDED:
The Pre-Contract Services
carried out on this project included the initial budgeting,
the preparation of the Bills of Quantities, advising on the
selection of tendering contractors, reporting on the tenders
received and negotiating the revised Contract Sum.
Post-Contract Services
being carried out on this project include continual cost monitoring/reporting,
agreeing and certifying monthly valuations, dealing with all
contractual and financial matters leading up to the preparation
and agreement of the Final Account. Cost information has been
provided to the BCIS.
