DESCRIPTION OF THE PROJECT:

The project comprised the construction of a Music Block attached at one gable to an existing building. One part of the new building is two storeys high and contains a number of music practice rooms, a classroom, staff room, toilets and storage facilities. The other part is single storey and contains the Main Hall with a separate viewing balcony.

The Works are of traditional construction with load-bearing masonry walls to the two storey portion of the building and a steel portal frame to the Main Hall. Both sections of the building have precast concrete plank floors, cut timber roof structure and concrete interlocking tile roof coverings. Windows and external doors are to be purpose made wrot hardwood. The building incorporates a number of specialist acoustic materials including wall linings, internal doors and suspended ceilings.

The building was completed and fitted out ready for use by the Employer including all wall, floor and ceiling finishes and decorations. The building included all necessary electrical installations including heating with some alterations to the mechanical installations within the adjoining building.

Ancillary works included simple landscaping, paving, steps and ramps, drainage and external services to the building, plus the formation of an overflow car park.

CONSULTANT SERVICES PROVIDED:

The Pre-Contract Services carried out on this project involved the initial budgeting, the preparation of the Bills of Quantities and reporting on the tenders received.

The Post-Contract Services carried out on this project involved the agreeing and certifying of monthly valuations, dealing with all Contractual matters and negotiations in respect of the final account.
